Ian McCallum was raised on the Isle of Bute on the west coast of Scotland, so he intrinsically knows what it is like to live on an island, and what is different about island life. Over the last decade, he has been the energy of the leadership that has grown and nurtured the sport of soccer for the island community.

During his time in the USA, Ian McCallum has grown his knowledge, expertise, and connections within a multitude of youth soccer organizations to enable him to be a lead role in Bainbridge Island FC. His belief in building champions, both on and off the soccer field exemplifies his commitment to the game and the players within our club.

In the last decade, Ian has been the lead to grow the program into something great. Building on the foundations of the previous leadership he has been able to add layers upon layer of increased programming and an increased quality of the product on the field.  Mini Kickers for young players, Development Academy, International Tours, and Island Cup are integral facets of the current program but are unrecognizable from where the program was a decade ago thanks to Ian’s guidance.

He began his career in the U.S. leading the soccer program at Camp Lenox in Massachusetts, then as Assistant Men’s Coach at Hanover College in Indiana, followed by several collegiate and youth coaching roles in Minnesota before relocating with his family to Bainbridge Island, where he now calls home. With a population of only 25,000,  Bainbridge Island is all about community, and that carries over to the Bainbridge Island FC as well. The club believes in quality over quantity – advancing the personal and physical development of each and every one of its roughly 1,000 players in the program throughout the year.

While the island may have changed from Bute to Bainbridge, Ian’s lifelong enthusiasm for soccer hasn’t. Over the years, his journey from Scotland and throughout the U.S. has brought his full circle, allowing him to give back to the sport that brought him so much love and happiness as a child.
